FRIDAY NIGHT Lecture - 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Jupiter, Saturn & the Persian Astrology of the Magi: A Detective Story Through Astrological History

We're all aware of the 20-year Jupiter-Saturn conjunction cycle, and of the most recent conjunction in Taurus back in the year 2000. Some of us even remember the 'triple-conjunction' in Libra back in 1980-81.

However, the great cycles of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions were used throughout Christian, Jewish, Islamic, and Zoroastrian chronologies to determine the timing of the rise and fall of new dynasties, prophets, and world religions, the dawn of new millenniums, and even the ultimate battle between good & evil at the end of the world. Christopher Columbus was a great proponent of the messianic and apocalyptic portents of this cycle, but he stood on the receiving end of a long-standing and wide-spread tradition.

But how and where did this tradition arise? And what gave rise to it? Tracing out an intricate pattern of interlacing triangles around the zodiac, the conjunction cycle provides a unique entry into the mysteries of Persian astrology, and their tradition of astrological histories. One of our earliest sources for its use is Masha'allah (8th century CE), who used the thousand-year conjunction cycle to place the advent of both Christ and Christianity, and Mohammed and Islam, into the Persian astrological context.

The story of the astrological use of the Jupiter-Saturn cycle is a fascinating one, stretching all the way from Babylon in the 6th century BCE to 18th century Christian Europe, and beyond. Among its many advocates we find names both famous and infamous, from history, science and religion. There's a lot to learn from the historical uses and abuses of the conjunction cycle, especially as we seek to discern its relevance in our lives today.

Meeting June 19-20, 2009 - Panel on the Economy -
Steve Weiss, Doug Noblehorse & Ken Hopkins

"Friday & Saturday - Hellenomics, Declinomics, and the Reign of Neptune"

It's a triple header of astrological insight into our current economic situation. Last month's featured speaker, Doug Noblehorse, will explore the economy using Hellenistic methods and interpretation, and will key on Profections. Ken Hopkins will reveal progressed graphic declinations of the American Big Three auto makers and other key U.S.-related charts. Steve Weiss will share his perception of nebulous Neptune and the outer planets. We'll allow the final 15 minutes for question from our members and guests.

On Saturday we'll move Friday night's analysis toward a look at the future. We expect some great questions from the audience and we may need to expound further with the answers during Saturday's workshop along with some surprises from our trio of speakers.

This panel presentation is not intended as a contest to see which astrologer and/or technique is the most effective. Rather, this weekend's panel presentations are designed to spotlight techniques available to astrologers when assessing mundane matters.

Cost: $15.00

SATURDAY Seminar - 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM

Preliminary Natal Analysis From Hellenistic Astrology
Douglas Noblehorse, Speaker

Contrary to some modern astrological perception, not all planets in a given chart function and express equally. Some have an easier time reaching their goals and fulfilling their particular agenda, while others find their best efforts blocked, and so must reach their goals and destinations via less obvious channels of expression. From Robert Schmidt, Project Hindsight and Hellenistic Astrology however, we have a structured, systematic method of evaluating the relative merits and disadvantages of each planet in a horoscope.

In Saturday's workshop Doug will explain and illustrate these planetary conditions that affect their expression. Most of these conditions (i.e. rulership, retrogrades, angularity, cardinality) you will already be familiar with. Some astrological factors, such as motivating triplicity rulers, Lot of Fortune houses, sect, house joys, etc., might be less familiar to you depending on your astrological specialty.

As on Friday night, please bring your horoscope (using Whole Sign houses; if you're adventurous bring a second copy of your chart using Porphyry Houses) so that you can see how these conditions apply to your chart. Find out why you instinctively prefer certain planets in your chart, while viewing others with aversion and reluctance.

If anyone would like their chart to be used as a class example, please send your birth information to Doug at noblehorse@cox.net.

FRIDAY NIGHT Lecture - 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Chart Rulers From Hellenistic Astrology
Douglas Noblehorse, Speaker

Modern astrology generally recognizes the ruler of the Ascendant as the chart ruler. However, this is but a remnant of the original Hellenistic doctrine, which recognized, determined and evaluated several different planets that filled specialized leadership roles and responsibilities. This lecture explains what these different positions and their responsibilities were, how to determine which planets in your chart take on these positions, and how well these planets fulfill their rulership roles.

Bring your natal chart with you as Doug will provide a worksheet that will help you determine your various chart rulers. If at all possible, print your chart with the Whole Sign house system as this is the original house system used by horoscopic astrologers. If you prefer the Sidereal Zodiac over the Tropical Zodiac, feel free to use it.

* The Speaking Sky: the evidence for the use of the sky as a source of wisdom in the old stone-age, including 30,000-year-old calendars carved on ancient bones, cave paintings, and mysterious moon-goddess images. Nick has compiled this material for the first time.

* Omens and Auguries: We will take a fresh look at the earliest Babylonian astrology, and the evidence for its practices and development. We will consider the Dream of Gudea, the tablet of stars owned by the goddess Nanshe (the first astrologer?), and ask just why did birth charts develop – and what exactly did the first known chart say?

* 2012: What Would Kepler Say?: Doom-sayers are relying on both the imminent Uranus-Pluto square and the Mayan Calendar to predict upheaval for the early years of the next decade. The genius of modern astronomy, Johannes Kepler, would disagree. We will examine what Kepler said, his brilliant insight into the psychic fabric of the cosmos, and the advice he offered. Come along for an optimistic view of the future!

Mercury Half-Hour: Sponges and Astrology with Doug Noblehorse

Main Speaker: Saturday Seminar with guest speaker Moses Siregar III
1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

New Insights Into Locational Astrology

Moses enjoys having the perspective of an astrologer that utilizes modern and traditional western astrologies along with traditional hindu astrology, and these points of view, along with his own passion for new research have given him a somewhat revolutionary view on the subject of locational astrology. He employs methods that are both simple and sophisticated, and he brings with him tales from inside the trenches of client work on the cutting edge of locational astrology.

The Saturday workshop will go deeper into his approach introduced in Friday evening's lecture, illustrating many simple but powerful methods of relocated astrological analysis that are quite different from the standard fare.
